The first in a series of newly developed Kiddy Cricket Physical Education Teachers'  Workshops will be launched in Antigua tomorrow. Similar workshops are slated for territories across the region, as the West Indies Cricket Board and Scotiabank role out the revamped activity roster for the new school year.

The first Kiddy Cricket PE Teachers Workshop will be hosted at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium tomorrow, Tuesday October 4th & Wednesday 5th.

The workshop will focus on delivering the fundamental skills of cricket to PE teachers and volunteers, enabling them to coach the game at a recreational level. Over 60 participants from various primary schools will benefit from this exercise, which will be delivered by former West Indies fast bowler Kenny Benjamin.

As WICB and Scotiabank aim to rebuild participation and interest in the game of cricket at the primary school level, over 1100 Kiddy Cricket kits have been made available to children across the region.

The Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket programme also strives to equip teachers and facilitators with fundamental cricket knowledge to teach the game in a fun manner and which helps to cultivate a love for the game among children.

WICB and Scotiabank have engaged over 70 Level 1 coaches across 14 territories regionally. The PE Teachers Workshops will increase the number of trained personnel delivering the programme enabling many more kids in each territory to be taught the basics of batting, fielding, bowling and wicket keeping.

The Ministry of Education, Sports, Gender & Youth Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda will also be lending support to the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Programme as certified cricket coaches in the ministry system will visit primary schools in the twin island state to conduct coaching sessions.

Also a Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Festival is scheduled to be hosted later in the year in each participating territory across the region to give the kids in the programme an opportunity to showcase their cricket skills and build camaraderie with other Kiddy Cricketers from their territory.
