BART'S BASH 2016 RESULTS
Friday 23rd September 2016

On Sunday 18th September we joined a worldwide sailing event known as the ‘Barts Bash’ which is held annually in memory of Andrew Simpson – an America’s Cup sailor who was tragically killed in a training accident in 2013. For the last 3 years, sailing venues around the world have held a regatta from which the proceeds are donated to the andrewsimpsonfoundation.org who, in turn, distribute the funds to sailing development – this year the emphasis is to promote sailing for the disabled.

The National Sailing Academy is one of only 3 centres outside the U.K. that run an RYA ‘Sailability’ programme for disabled children and adults (the others are Dubai & Hong Kong) so we will be asking for support to expand our programme.

The weather was fine and the sailing conditions excellent. The morning event was the ‘Mini Regatta’ with a total of 34 boats on the water and 40 sailors. This was a joint event with the Antigua Yacht Club and we thank Vice-Commodore Clare Leader, and her team, for acting as race officer as well as Karl James for his help on the water. Full results for this are on the AYC website: www.antiguayachtclub.com

The results of the afternoon race, the ‘Bart’s Bash’ can be seen here and there are some great photos taken by Jody Sallons-Day which can be seen here.

We also thank Franklyn Braithwaite and his daughter Sharifa (helm) who competed in one of our Sailability Trimarans and Ashley Rhodes (with his crew Micah Archibald – age 6) who sailed the other one.
