NATIONAL SAILING ACADEMY HOLDS FIRST INTER-HOUSE COMPETITION
Friday 31st January 2014

Caribarena.com reports on the National Sailing Academy's first inter-house sailing competition:

Antigua St. John's - Jolly Beach was the scene of activity as the National Sailing Academy (NSA) held its first inter-house sailing competition Yesterday.

Five two-man teams representing various Houses (teams) at the National Technical Training Centre took part in the historic event.

After two races on the waters, the Red team of Yenbri Cruz and Brian Santana prevailed to take top honours with four points.

The yellow House team of Kemoir Josiah and Deron Joseph finished second, tied with the Blue House team of Dwayne Desilva and Iteba Baltimore, both with six points.

Parents, teachers and other students were on hand to witness the event as well as a number of interested visitors spending time at the Jolly Beach Resort.

Head instructor Sylvester Thomas was extremely pleased with the turn out of the student population and interested persons.

"This is a very special moment," Thomas told CARIBARENAANTIGUA.COM.

"For the first of its kind, we can only get better and bigger.

"I am so pleased with the enthusiasm of the teachers and other students and I am confident that the program will improve."
More than 200 students across the country take part in the National Sailing Academy program from schools across the country.
According to Thomas, the NSA will hold similar events regularly and at the end of the school year will host an inter-schools competition.

"We have huge plans for these young people," Thomas said.

"After we complete a number of these events in the schools we will hold the first ever Inter-Schools Sailing competition and crown the champion school.

"For years we have been training these youngsters and now we see the fruits of those training sessions."
The National Technical Training Centre is in its third year and was founded to assist first and second form students who require special training.

At the end of their time at the Centre, these students are tested and once successful will be integrated back into the regular secondary school system.
