NATIONAL TIME TRIAL CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS

Jyme Bridges still the man to beat for 2013 as he went for his 4th straight win on Sunday, as the association hosted the 2013 National Time Trial Cycling Championships.

Jyme Bridges first victory for the year on March 10th gave him poles position on Sunday’ as Bridges was the last rider to set on the course in the honourable starting position in the cycling sport of Time Trial. Bridges started 1 minute behind the reigning National Time Trial Champion, Robert Marsh a match up that attracted the majority of spectators at Sunday’s Time Trial. Sunday’s windy condition wasn’t the most favourable day for an individual Time Trial but Jyme Bridges proved that he was the best prepared athlete.

Jyme Bridges won Sunday’s event to crown as the 2013 National Time Trial Champion in a time of 44:09. The Rattlers Cycling Club top rider broke the course record set at last year’s event by Robert Marsh in a time of 44:29. Bridges knock 20 seconds off of the fastest time set over the 19 mile distance to a new course record of 44:09. Robert Marsh of the East Side Raiders Cycling Club had to settle for 2nd after producing a time of 44:45, 8 seconds better than Team Terminix top rider, Marvin Spencer who placed 3rd in a time of 44:54. Andre Simon placed 4th after producing a time of 45:20 with Dale Richardson of Club Savoy who was 5th in a time of 47:30.

Kevinia Francis captured the 2013 National Female Time title. Kevinia Francis clocked a time of 28:07 to concur her fiercest rival, Lindsay Duffy who produced a time that is good enough for 2nd place. Alisha David placed 3rd in a time of 31:59. All three ladies are members of the Road Runners Cycling Club.

Tesheed Gordon is the top junior cyclist on the island. Tesheed easily won the Junior National Time Trial title after producing a time of 24:04 over the 9.5 mile course. The ESR Club youngster beat his closest rival by a minute when Joel Phillip clocked a time of 25:04 to place second. Colin James of Rattlers Club placed 3rd in a time of 25:37. Zackyle Joseph of Road Runners Club placed 3rd in a time of 27:50.

In recognition of B-Class, Conroy Thomas continues to show improvement. He was the best of the B-Class by clocking a time of 48:35 to win the 19 mile event. Tesheed Gordon who also contested the 2 lap B-Class placed 2nd in a time of 49:51. Rory Butler placed 3rd in a time of 51:08 whilst Mervin Gore and Tristan Matthew was 4th and 5th respectively.

Nigel Fabian won the 9.5 mile Cadet Class in a time of 27:51. Peter Kelsick contested the Masters Class clocking a time of 27:21 and Wazir Barnwell won the Beginners Class in a time of 32:50.

The next event will take place on Sunday 12th May as the Cycling Association will host the ABACA Circuit Race, starting 3pm at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Circuit races are rapidly becoming the most exciting and spectator friendly cycling event, come on out and give your support the riders as Jyme Bridges in quest for his 5th consecutive victory on the local scene.
