ANNUAL NATIONAL TIME TRIAL CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Wednesday 17th April 2013

The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will be hosting their Annual National Time Trial Cycling Championships on Sunday 21st April, starting at 2:30pm. The event will take place from in front the Police Recreation Grounds and follow the route up Factory Road, North Sound, pass Mount Joy Round-About over to Freemans Village Play Field back to PRG for 2 laps.

Robert Marsh is the man to beat as the reigning National Time Trial Champion, setting a new course record April 1st 2012 of a time of 44:29 over the 19 mile distance. Last year was easy to predict as the title fight was between 3 athletes, Robert Marsh, Marvin Spencer and Jyme Bridges but this year is hard to predict as over 6 cyclists can snatch the Sport’s most prestigious title. Robert Marsh of the ESR Cycling Club still on forms to retain his title but, he would have to keep off Rattlers Club, Jyme Bridges who beat him at the Opening Season 16 Mile Time Trial, setting a new course record.

2011 National Time Trial Championship, Marvin Spencer of Team Terminix, he is back in great forms and have his mind set to repeat his 2011 performance. Andre Simon of Team Terminix recently returned from a 2 month high performance training in Havana, Cuba after won the Neil Lloyd Pre Season Race before he left the island. Garfield Henry, he have been producing some great time trial times and should put it together for Sunday’s race. Dale Richardson, Neil Lloyd, Conroy Thomas, Ashley Rhodes and Walton Francis all of whom are riding extremely well and can cause an upset in Sunday’s race that is deemed “the race of truth”

Tesheed Gordon should bring home his new club, ESR Cycling Club the Junior Title. Tesheed has been competing the B-Class but will have to compete in his default class for the Nationals, his fiercest competition can come from Joel Phillip of Team Terminix, and Colin James of Rattlers.
2012 National Female Time Trial Champion, Tamiko Butler will not be defending her title as she still pursuing her studies in Trinidad. Kevina Francis of Road Runners Cycling Club will battle against Lindsay Duffy in the beautiful class known as the Female Class. B-Class and Cadets Class is not a recognized class in the statutes of the UCI and will not be recognized a National title, however, the Association will categorized the riders of these classes and give mention of the results.

The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association is asking the general public for their support and are seeking the cooperation of the motorist on the route. The event will occupy the roads we share for approximately an hour and a half and are asking for your kindest consideration and cooperation. Ever seconds counts for this type of race and the cyclists are expected to go all out with little bike control, please look out for our “race in Progress” signs and take every caution.
