LAST RACE BEFORE CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS

The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will host its final domestic race on Sunday 7th October in preparation for the region’s flagship event, INET Caribbean Cycling Championships.

Annual Scrubbo Pineapple Individual Time Trial will stage on Sunday but will run on a different course from the usual course used for Scrobo’s event.  The Association will do an exact run of the course select for the Inet Caribbean Cycling Time Trial route.

The event will start at 9:30am on the road east of Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and head out unto Factory road, Mount Joy Round a bout, Jonas road, to All Saints Village, turn following the same route back unto Factory road, North Sound, down to Police recreation grounds where the riders will turn and head back up Factory road, through the road surrounding Sir Viv Stadium for 2 laps ending back at the start/finish.

Sunday’s event will be the final selection process where both the Road and Individual Time Team. The announcement of the team will take place on Monday 8th October. Robert Marsh, Jyme Bridges and Marvin Spencer have secured their spot on the Time Trial team 3 weeks ago when the Association hosted a TT qualifier where the 3 met the Standard. Sunday’s event will be the determine factor for the 4th and final spot on the Individual team. The riders need to complete the 24 mile course in less than one hour. Robert Marsh completed the course in 56 minutes, but Sunday’s event will run from a different location in a harder terrain and will be more challenging to get up in Speed. The riders expected for Sunday are Marvin Spencer, Andre Simon, Dale Richardson, Omari King, Ken Jackson, Ashley Rhodes, Clint Henry, Brian Lyn, Walton Francis, Patrick Peters and Garfield Henry.
 
 B- Class, Juniors and Females will go for 1 lap of the 12 mile course. This will be the distance of the Caribbean Championships female’s event. Unfortunately, Tamiko Butler will not compete on Sunday as she is presently competing in the Tobago Classic Cycling event. However, National selectee, Kevinia Francis and Lindsay Duffy will have their battle in the final race of the season. The Junior will also display their talent as this will start early preparation for next year’s Caribbean Junior Cycling Championships which is expected to take place as early as February 2013 in Belize. The riders of B-Class will wrap up their season on Sunday as this event will also use to establish who will be promoted to the A- Class.
