CYCLING ASSOCIATION NAME THE CCC TEAM
Thursday 5th July 2012

The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association named 12 men, 2 female training team to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the 2012 Caribbean Cycling Championships to be held in Antigua, October 20 – 21st. As the host country Antigua and Barbuda is allowed to fill two teams of 5 riders per men team and 3 riders per Female team in both male and female category, an option that only Antigua and Barbuda can fill as compare to other English speaking Caribbean countries. The Association are confident to name the first team of 5 riders and select 7 riders to fill the 2nd team where we will chose the 2nd 5 persons.

The first team consist of: Jyme Bridges, Robert Marsh, Marvin Spencer, Andre Simon and Omari King while the 2nd team consisted of seven riders which will include 2 reserved to train in case any last minute withdrawal. The seven includes: Clint Henry, Walton Francis, Ashley Rhoades, Ken Jackson, Dale Richardson, Brian Lyn and Neil Lloyd. The Female team consist of two riders; the 2011 Caribbean Female Time trial Champion, Tamiko Butler will fly the nation’s flag along with Kevinia Francis.

Recent questions have surfaced in the media regarding the inclusion of Godfrey Pollydore on the team. The Association will be more than happy to include the region most successful sprint finisher however; the governing body of the Championships, Caribbean Cycling Federation is very strict on the representation according to Passport and UCI License. This will also affect our 3rd female representative, Lindsay Duffy.

The Association also selected an athlete representative on the board of the Local Organizing Committee and Team Manager of the entire squad. ABACA selected Mervin Gore to this post. The Association position is clear on selecting the Coach to head squad by using the most winnest coach based on Club points and this goes to Barry Gordon of Rattlers Cycling Club, he will be assisted by the experience of Ira Fabian who is the 2nd best coach according to his club ranking as Team Terminix is 2nd in points.

The team is expected to start training as a team on Sunday to work on team tactic and improve their performance and hopefully arrive at the island’s trump card to propel to the top when the extremely high performance event staged in Antigua October 20-21st.
