Robert Marsh (43) stills the fastest man on bike in Antigua and Barbuda. Marsh proves once again that when it comes to individual effort for speed on a bicycle he is the island best.

In Sunday 16 Mile Individual Time Trial hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association Marsh convinced the public why he is the National Time Trial Champion by producing a record breaking time of 35:32. The Club Savoy rider erase the standing course record time (35:51) set by Jyme Bridges in 2010 to adjust the new course record by over 20 seconds. Robert Marsh won the ABACA 16 mile Individual Time Trial over last year and the last race winner Marvin Spencer of Team Terminix who also produced an outstanding time of 35:57. National Triathlete, Andre Simon causes a upset to squeeze Jyme off of the podium placing 3^rd. Simon who also a member of Team Terminix did what no man even did before of getting between the island 3 beat time trial-ist of Marsh, Marvin and Jyme. Andre Simon placed 3^rd in a time of 36:25. Jyme Bridges of the Rattlers Club had to settle for 4^th place after producing a time of 36:46 whilst Dale Richardson placed 5^th in a time of 36:51.

 

Another native of St. Paul capture the development category – B-Class, Ashley Rhodes known to the public as a National Sailor, the youngster now cross over to a sport he always shown great interest for especially when representing Antigua and Barbuda at Games where Antigua is represented in the 2 sports. He finally changes his mode from love to watch to do it and is doing it well. Rhodes tried his first race early in the season and from his first race it was proven that he would be a force to be reckoned with. The Club Savoy best new rider continue to progress each races and keep set foot on the podium for almost all the races he entered.

Rhodes gave Club Savoy a victory to win the B-Class in a time of 39:03 ahead of a gradually improving Walton Francis of the Rattlers Club. Both riders performance is good enough for them to be considered to be in the squad o represent Antigua and Barbuda when we host the 2012 Caribbean Cycling Championships in October.  Walton produced a time of 39:09, five seconds off the winning time. Junior category rider, Tesheed Gordon placed 3^rd in a time of 39:43. A disappointed ride for National Sportswoman, Tamiko Butler who was unable to be on the podium for the first time since she began contesting the B-Class category. The Nation Female Time Trialist produced a time of 40:38 that was good enough for 4^th place. Mervin Gore was 5^th in a time of 40:41.

 

Jaleel Cannonier was the best of the Junior-Class he produced a time of 43:36 to win the 16-mile junior event. Colin James was 2^nd of the two competitors producing a time of 44:39. Joel Phillip continues to dominate the Cadet-Class; the 13 year old produced a time of 21:42 over the 8-mile course to beat the National Cadet Champion, Nigel Fabian who placed 2^nd in a time of 23:19.

 

Lindsay Duffy was the best of the females; Duffy clocked a time of 22:40 to win the female 8-mile race. Kevinia Francis placed 2^nd after producing a time of 25:00. Wendy Tittle was 3^rd producing a time of 27:50 in her debut.

 

National Boxing Champion, Dexter Simmons was the best in the Sports Class. Dexter clocked a time of 22:36 to win. Masters Champion, Peter Kelsick was 2^nd in a time of 22:43 to place ahead of Nelson Simon who was 3^rd in a time of 24:22.

 

Meanwhile, the next event will take place on 24^th June in the city of St. John’s when the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association will host the 2012 Top Ranking National Road Cycling Championships. The cyclist will battle over 66 mile for the sport most prestigious title. The event will start in front the Top Ranking Store on Old Parham at 9:30am.
