RESULTS OF THE 3 STAGE RACE - AUGUST 13TH 2011 Thursday 18th August 2011
The Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Association resumed its calendar of activities on Sat 13th August after breaking for the nation’s festival season as the cycling season reaches its half way mark. The Association resumed by hosting the ABACA 3-Stage Race on Saturday and Sunday.

Stage 1- Individual Time Trial, took place Saturday 13th started 7am in front the Police Recreation Grounds. National Time Trial Champion, Marvin Spencer won the 1st stage clocking a time of 9:23.34 edging Neil Lloyd who also produced a commendable time of 9:23.46, 0.116 hundred of a second off the winning time to place 2nd. Belgian, Chiel Lafabure placed 3rd after completing the 4 mile prologue in a time of 9:40. Devon Norris was the best of the B-class recording a time of 10:18.10 to win the first stage ahead of Alvin Merrick who also recorded a time of 10:18.41. Clint Henry was 3rd in the B class in a time of 10:44. Lone female competitor, Lindsay Duffy recorded a time of 12:06 over the 4 mile course. First-timer, Jermaine James won the junior class producing a time of 10:30 ahead of Joel Phillip was 2nd in a time of 12:55. Nigel Fabian placed 3rd in a time of 13:26.
Stage 2 – started and 3pm on Saturday 13th continue to add to the list of the nation’s best riders who was unable to start the race for more reason than one when race leader, Marvin Spencer had a fall forcing to abandon the race. With Robert Marsh out as he nursing flu the race was very open for a random winner. However, Chiel Lafabure snatches the 2nd stage. The young Belgian won the 30 mile circuit race in a time of 1:20.19 ahead of veteran, Brian Lyn who sprinted home for 2nd in a time of 1:20.20. Cosmos Richardson was 3rd of the A-class in a time of 1:20.23. John Henry, brother of Wayne Henry contested the 2nd stage and won the B-class event. John Henry completed the 12 lap course in a time 1:03.50 ahead of Alvin Merrick who was 2nd in a time 1:03.51. Clint henry was 3rd in time of 1:03.51. Jermaine James won the 2nd stage after out sprinted Joel Phillip to win the 2nd stage of the ABACA 3-stage race. James completed the 4 lap circuit in a time of 20:41 ahead of Joel Phillip and Nigel Fabian who was 2nd and 3rd respectively. Lindsay Duffy completed the female 6 lap course in a time of 38:10.
Sunday 14th was the staging of the 3rd and final stage with Neil Lloyd leading the general classification. Lloyd eventually abandons the race after cramping half way into the 40 mile event. The stage came down to an exciting sprint finish which was won by Chiel Lafabure followed by Cosmos Richardson and Glenn Campbell, all recorded and time of 2:05.13 separated by 100s of a seconds. Alvin Merrick and Devon Norris came home neck and neck for top honours in B class 3rd stage. The stage was won by Alvin Merrick ahead if Devon Norris and Clint Henry who was 2nd and 3rd respectively. Jermaine James won the 3rd stage of the juniors after attacking Joel Phillip in the final mile of the 20 mile course. Phillip placed 2nd ahead of Nigel Fabian who was 3rd. Lindsay completed the 20 mile female course in a time of 1:15.57.
The overall winner was Chiel Lafabure who had the best time over the 3 stages, accumulating an overall time of 3:35.13. 2nd overall went to Brian Lyn – 3:35.50 and Glenn Campbell 3rd – 3:36.18.
B-class won by Alvin Merrick in an overall time of 3:22.35 followed by Devon Norris – 3:29.06 and John Henry 3rd – 3:29.08.
Junior Class was easily won by Jermaine James in an overall time of 1:32.33, 2nd was Joel Phillip – 1:40.02 and 3rd was Nigel Fabian – 1:45.28
Female – Lindsay Duffy was the lone competitor won completed all 3 stages in a time of 2:06.14
The next event will take place of Sunday 28th August when the Association will host the exciting 16 mile Individual Time Trial. The event is schedule to take place at 3pm and will start in front of Police Recreation Grounds to Mount Joy Round about and back for 2 laps. The general public are asked to show their support.
