The Antigua and Barbuda cycling Association hosted 2010 Scrubbo Auto Repairs Individual Time Trial on Sunday 12th September. The event started 3:30pm in front Police Recreation Grounds field 26 riders who start individually one minute at a time. Robert Marsh was the last person to start the race in the respectable order of these types of races and the seeding order was based on the last time trial where he was crowned as the National Time Trial Champion.
Jyme Bridges came out to continue the passion he showed in his last race by putting down a time of 31:53 on the 13 miles course. Bridges and the spectators waited on the other race favorites to see if anyone could better his time. Dale Richardson came home clocking a time of 33:30 that pose no threat time Bridges time, Marvin Spencer arrived with a time of 33:25, still far off the best time so far. As Marsh approached the home stretch the fans took their eyes of the clock as Marsh was already a minute behind the time set by Jyme. Marsh came home clocking a time of 33:15, good enough for 2nd fastest time of the day.
The 2010 Scrubbo Time Trial Championship won by Jyme Bridges in a time of 31:53, 3 seconds off the course record time set by Robert Marsh. Marsh of Club Savoy placed 2nd in a time of 33:15, 1:21 off the winning time. Marvin Spencer of Rebel Racing Club proves that he is the 3rd fastest man on bike on the island by placing 3rd in this and the previous time trials, he clock a time of 33:25 to cool the rivalry between him and Dale Richardson of Club Savoy who was 4th in a time of 33:30. Ken Jackson was 5th in a time of 34:00.
B-Class, Timothy Thomas back on top of the standings as he easily won the 13-mile Time Trial by beating his closest rival by over one minute and twenty seconds. Timothy Thomas already booked a promotion to A-Class after clocking a time of 35:53 to win the B-Class. Alvin Merrick placed 2nd clocking a time of 37:14 with Wayne Henry placing 3rd in a time of 37:32. Andre Simon and Abevia McDonald were 4th and 5th respectively.
Tamiko Butler continues to dominate the Female Class by beating her closest rival by over 9 minutes after completing the 13 mile course. Butler won the Female class in a time of 41: 38 ahead of Dorothy Graham who placed 2nd in a time of 50:59. Keitha Mannix continues to show improvement by completing the course in a time of 51:36 to place 3rd in the Scubbo 13 mile Individual Time Trial.
Two riders competed in the Beginners Class covering the 13 mile course. Daryl Matthew won the beginners class clocking a time of 47:40 ahead of Kirk Anderson who was 2nd in a time of 52:33.
The Cycling Association will like to thank the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, the sponsors and the volunteers who assist with marshaling the street corners during the race.
Antigua Cycling Association gets busy again this weekend as they will host the Ted’s Figtree Hill Road Race on Sunday 19th September starting at 9:30am. The race will start at Sir Vivian Stadium, heading Down Factory rd, American rd, Golden Grove, Jennings, Bolans, Urlings, Old Road, Figtree Drive, Swetes, Liberta, Cobbs Cross, Red Hill, Bethesda, Pots Works Dam rd, Factory road, finishing back at Sir Vivian Stadium. The race will also use to access the national team as they prepare to compete in the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi, India in October.
St. Vincent National squad will also be participating in Sunday’s 40 mile event. Orano Andrew, Shimano Bailey and Marlon Christopher of SVG are expected to compete in Sunday’s event as they also preparing for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in October.
