CARIBBEAN SAILING ASSOCIATION

Dear Members and Friends:

We’ve had a very busy past few months with the CSA AGM and Annual Conference recently behind us.  I’d like to thank the almost 50 delegates who attended the Conference in Antigua in late October for their contributions to making it the great success that it once again was.  There was broad participation from member stakeholders across the region which guaranteed enlightening and sometimes challenging discussions about progressing our sport of sailing in the Caribbean region.

We have taken a lot away from the Conference and now have plenty of work to do to move forward with the various projects that were identified during the meetings.  Key projects for the coming year include development of a regional Sailing Certification Program and ongoing sailing development projects, further development of the CSA Rating Rules, continued discussion and interaction with MNAs and Group O representatives, as well as the ongoing calendar and marketing committee projects.

During the Conference a Facebook closed discussion group was created to make it easier for members across the region to share ideas and information in an easy manner throughout the year.  We encourage all members to join the discussion group by searching Caribbean Sailing Association Membership on Facebook and requesting to join the group.  There will also soon be a members’ log-in area on the website that will include plenty of information and resources for all of us.  More on that in the near future.

The 3rd edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race started without a hitch in ideal conditions outside Marina Lanzarote. With a gentle breeze and slight sea state, it was a comfortable start to the 2,865 nautical mile ocean race to Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina in Grenada, West Indies.

The three fastest yachts have chosen to head north of the rhumb line. Once they have rounded Tenerife, the decision to continue north or dive south will become clear. Read more here.
