2013 CARIBBEAN DINGHY CHAMPIONSHIPS HEAD TO ANTIGUA Friday 30th August 2013
The Caribbean Sailing Association (‘CSA’) is delighted to announce that Antigua Yacht Club and Antigua’s National Sailing Academy will be organising and hosting the 2013 Caribbean Dinghy Championships to be held from 15th – 17th November, 2013.
The Championships have been held in Antigua for the past two years while being organised in association with the CSA. In 2013, Antigua Yacht Club and the National Sailing Academy as hosts will take over all organisational aspects of the event and the Caribbean Dinghy Championships will become one of a slate of CSA-sanctioned events.
The decision was made to switch the emphasis from a CSA-organised event to a CSA-sanctioned one for a number of reasons: primarily because as the CSA is a regional organisation, the logistics of having the event organised by one nation on an annual basis makes for a simplified planning process; because one of the main roles of the CSA is to maintain and manage the CSA rating rule; and because organisation of events moves away from a core function of the Association.
Promotion and support of the growth of dinghy sailing and yachting in the Caribbean is one of the major objectives of the CSA however, and as such sanctioning of this and other events is seen as a major way of achieving this goal.
The Caribbean Dinghy Championships have taken place for many years and were originally hosted by a different country each year across the Caribbean. The event sees teams of mixed age groups from juniors to seniors race in Laser Open, Laser Radial, Zoom 8, Optimist and Laser Pico classes and the event is an excellent stepping stone into competitive sailing for many entrants.
The Notice of Race is now available online at www.caribbean-sailing.com. If you would like to enter a team, please contact Antigua Yacht Club at yachtclub@candw.ag. Please note only one team per country is eligible for entry.
