2022 CARIBBEAN DINGHY CHAMPIONSHIP NOR Friday 19th August 2022
The CSA is delighted to announce that plans have been finalized for the 2022 Caribbean Dinghy Championship to take place in St. Maarten from October 21-23, 2022. Hosted by Sint Maarten Yacht Club, CSA President, Michele Korteweg says, ‘We know time is tight but we hope that our members will still be able to get a team to the event. It has been a long time since we have been able to get together in person, and we look forward to great competitive racing’.
The three day event will take place in Simpson Bay across five classes: optimists, laser, laser radial, RS Zests and RS Quests. Due to equipment constraints one boat per class is the team size. The format change allows each island to participate in as many classes as they have eligible sailors, without the necessity to send a full team. The format changed for the 2019 edition to encourage more islands to get involved in the event, thus reducing the need to field a complete team.
The Nations Trophy for best performing team was awarded to Antigua in 2019. After a 2 year’s absence due to the pandemic, organizers are hopeful there will be a strong interest from islands to participate again and compete for the Nations Trophy. Antigua is keen to defend their title.
