Walsh to Compete at CAC while others attend Titan Prix

Wings Track & Field athletes are expect-ing to show good improvement as far as medaling in upcoming regional and In-ternational Track & Field Meets in the next few weeks.

A sixteen (16) member Wings athletic team will compete in the Titans Grand Prix slated for July 4th in Nevis. The Ath-letic contingent includes long distance veteran Jamille Nelson and Eustace Mar-tin, quarter milers Jalil Salmon, and Meuset Jeffers, sprinters Alisha Thomas, Khadija Morris and Kevon Ryan to name a few. The Meet is being organized by the Titans Athletic Club of Nevis which is fill-ing the gap left by the Leeward Islands Junior Championship, this year. As such, a number of clubs from Antigua/Barbuda and the sub-region are expected to attend the Meet.

Also expected for the Meet are college re-cruiters from Lindenwood University, University of Houston, Morgan State University, Monroe College and Wichita State University.

Meanwhile, Wings and Antigua promising sprinter, Tahir Walsh will compete in the CAC Junior Athletics Meet in Santo Do-mingo, July 1-5, 2010. Walsh is also ex-pected to represent Antigua/Barbuda at the Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore, August 14 –25, this year.

Other Athletic Events that Wings athletes are expected to compete in for the rest of the Track & Field season are the Antigua/Barbuda Union of Teachers Athletic Meet, and St. Kitts Invitational.

Wings Youth Basketballers will be participating in the Youth Basketball Of America (YBOA) Int’l Basketball Camp in Or-lando, Florida, July 16 – 24, 2010.

YBOA, over the years, has provided sponsorship for the hosting of the Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out.

The Wings Sports Club would like to thank the General Public for its support in the basketball committee’s fund-raising activi-ties and look forward to continued support.

Wings youth footballers to participate in BVI

The Wings Sports Club would like to inform all Companies and individuals who have donated funds for the Wings Youth Foot-ballers to participate in the AC Milan Continental Football Tournament, in Cleveland, Ohio, this Summer, that a decision has been taken to forego this Tournament, this year.

Wings to participate in YBOA int'l camp

The Wings Youth Football Committee has been trying to raise the funds necessary to participate in the Tournament and was expected to travel on July 4, but has been unable to accumulate enough funding for airfare, accommodation and tournament fees. The WYF started planning and trying to fund-raise since last October 2009 to partake in this venture and parents were expected to meet the shortfall.

Also, the hurdle of obtaining visas for a few of the players to travel has still not been cleared. It has been an added expense for some to spend almost another $400.00US to travel to Barba-dos plus visas fees and not sure of obtaining visas.
The players have not been so much disappointed since the WYF has decided to take up a BVI Invitational Youth Tournament in Tortola, August 14 –16, 2010. Accommodation, ground transpor-tation and meals will be the responsibility of the host.
The WYF will continue it’s fund-raising activities.
