WORLD COMMONWEALTH DAY Friday 8th March 2013
Monday 11th March is recognized as Commonwealth Day. The Commonwealth Day is celebrated annually in all commonwealth nations, this year under the theme “Opportunity Through Enterprise” and encourages imagination, creativity, and a positive attitude to grasp the opportunities of our time. This year the Antigua and Barbuda Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association will be recognizing the March 11th Commonwealth Day in a big way; The Antigua and Barbuda Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association is pleased to inform you that we will be holding celebrations in our office in honour of Commonwealth Day that will take place on Monday, March 11 from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The ABOA will be holding an exhibit featuring posters, pins and memorabilia from past Commonwealth Games, and playing videos that will raise awareness about the Commonwealth. We will also be promoting the upcoming Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
By celebrating this day, the Antigua and Barbuda Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association is taking an active role in promotion Commonwealth values.
Along with the Commonwealth Day celebrations, we will be launching two competitions:
- Antigua and Barbuda Glasgow 2014 Official Pin Competition - We will be inviting the public to submit designs for the Antigua and Barbuda's Glasgow pin. The winning design with be immortalized as the official pin to be worn by the Antigua and Barbuda delegation at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and will win the grand prize of a 24 inch colour flat screen television
- The Commonwealth Essay Competition - The Royal Commonwealth Society is once again holding their annual Commonwealth Essay Competition. This international writing competition encourages youth 18 and under to nurture their creative writing skills on selected topics about this year's theme - "Opportunity Through Enterprise". The contest is free to enter and prizes range from winning resources for their school to a trip to London, England. The deadline to enter is May 1st, 2013 and entries can be submitted online. The Antigua and Barbuda Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association cordially invite you all to join us on Commonwealth Day, Monday, March 11 at 2:00pm as we officially launch both the Glasgow Pin and Commonwealth Essay competitions. Past Commonwealth Games athletes will be in attendance to speak about their experiences at the games. Light refreshments will be served.
