MINISTER OF STATE SENDS OLYMPIANS WELL-WISHES Wednesday 25th July 2012
With the 2012 Summer Olympics in London just days away from opening, Minister of State with responsibility for Sports, Sen. Hon. Winston Williams Jr. is extending best wishes to the National Olympic Team as they represent the country in two sporting disciplines, namely Track and Field and Swimming. The Track and Field contingent is comprised of H.E Daniel ‘Bakka’ Bailey, Brendan Christian and Afia Charles while the swimming team will be comprised of Karin Clashing and Orel Jeffrey. Senator Williams stated that the athletes can be assured of the full support of the Government and nation of Antigua and Barbuda and should carry the flag with pride both on and off the field of play.
The Minister with responsibility for Sports also announced that he regretted that he would be unable to join the National Olympic Team in person in London. Following discussions with Ministry Officials and the Minister of Finance, it was mutually agreed that the costs relating to his attendance at the event are prohibitive, in light of limited public financial resources at this time.
Senator Williams calls upon all Antiguans and Barbudans to support the team in their bid for medals in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, by sending best wishes via email or face book to the Ministry of Sports, who will in turn pass these on to the National Olympic Committee.
