SCHOOL SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010 Wednesday 24th February 2010
On Friday, February 26, 2010, the 2010 School Sports Championships will be launched at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium. Prior to the start of the season however, athletes in the sporting disciplines of Cricket, Basketball and Netball will have some warm up mini matches beginning Wednesday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. at a number of venues to include the YMCA Sports Complex for the Cool & Smooth Basketball and Nestle Netball matches and the Antigua Grammar School, Rising Suns and the King George V Grounds for the 10/10 United Insurance Cricket Matches.
The formal championship games will commence on Monday March 1, 2010 with matches in the United Insurance School Cricket, Cool & Smooth Basketball and Nestle Netball Championship Games. Another highlight of this year’s events will be the Coco Cola Inter-Schools Athletic Championships (CCIAC) which will be broadcast live on ABS Television on March 6th & 7th from the YASCO Sports Complex beginning at 3:00 p.m. each day. The opening ceremony for the CCIAC will be held on the first the two-day clash of track and field athletes from secondary schools across the islands. The event promises to be an exciting one with prizes going to schools with the most ticket sales and schools with the largest number of spectators. Each school will also have the opportunity to benefit from a portion of the ticket sales for the event which will require adults and children to pay a $10.00 and $5.00 entry fees respectively.
On March 18, 2010, All Stars Cool & Smooth Basketball and Nestle Netball Games will shoot off at the YMCA Sports Complex at 2:00 p.m. and will include displays from the visiting Canadian Team which will be on island as guests of the Concerned Parent Teacher’s Sports Association (CPTSA). There will be a minimum charge of $2.00 per person with 50% of gate receipts being donated to the school sports programme in participating schools.
Following the media launch, the finals for the Pre-Season 10/10 United Insurance Schools Cricket Matches will be held at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds.
