NATIONAL SPORTS AWARDS NOMINATIONS OPEN Tuesday 20th March 2012

There are still a few hours left for you to submit your nominations for one or more of the eight categories for the National Sports Awards on April 21, 2012.
All nominations MUST be endorsed by the national association to be considered.
Remember - All Applicants for the National Sports Awards MUST be 18 years and older
Under 18 year old elite athletes will be honoured in September 2012 at the National Student-Athlete Awards.
CATEGORIES FOR THE 2012 SPORTS AWARDS:
1. Top Female Athlete of the Year - awarded to the female sportsperson who best demonstrates supreme athletic performance and achievement in the physical sports category. ( 1 NOMINEE PER SPORT)
2. Top Male Athlete of the Year - awarded to the male sportsperson who best demonstrates supreme athletic performance and achievement in the physical sports category. (1 NOMINEE PER SPORT)
3. Mind Sports Athlete of the Year - awarded to the sportsperson who best demonstrates supreme performance and achievement in the mind sports category. (1 MALE AND/OR 1 FEMALE NOMINEE PER SPORT)
4. Top Sports Coach of the Year - awarded to the sports coach who best demonstrates the highest level of technical and professional capability which results in the highest level of performance and achievement. (1 NOMINEE PER SPORT)
5. Top Sports Official of the Year - awarded to the sports official who best demonstrates the highest level of technical and professional capability at the highest level of performance and achievement. (1 NOMINEE PER SPORT)
6. Community Sports Award of the Year - awarded to the individual or entity who/which best demonstrates the use of sports as a platform for bringing about positive social and/ or economic change at the community level. (MAX OF 2 PERSONS PER SPORT)
7. Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports - awarded to the sportsperson who has made a major impact on the world of sports during their lifetime. To be awarded only to a person who has given a minimum of 10 years of service in the area under consideration and is at least 50 years old. ( MAX OF 2 PERSONS PER SPORT)
8. Governor General’s Physically & Intellectually Challenged Sports Award for Courage – awarded to the sportsperson who best demonstrates excellent athletic achievement and strong leadership qualities in sports despite physical, mental or other challenges. (MAX OF 2 PERSONS PER SPORT)
