……..”Ecstatic” was the word used by Parliamentary Representative for St. George Dr. the Hon. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro to describe her emotions on witnessing her constituent Kerry ‘Arab’ Skepple score the lone goal in the FIFA World Cup Qualifier match on Friday night at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium to advance Antigua and Barbuda to the Semi-Finals round in June 2012.
Antigua and Barbuda beat Haiti 1:0 to advance to Group A matches where they will meet Jamaica, Guatemala and the USA as they continue their campaign to qualify for FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
Dr. Quinn-Leandro, the substantive Minister responsible for Sports in Antigua and Barbuda, who was among the thousands of Antiguans and Barbudans witnessing the game, immediately sent a text message of congratulations to her constituent Kerry Skepple after he placed the ball firmly in the back of the net, eight minutes before close of play to give Antigua and Barbuda the historic victory.
“Congrats Kerry! Antigua and Barbuda loves you. We are indebted to youu. God has blessed you with a special talent and you have honed your skills to bring us to this historic moment. Your performance was simply brilliant! May God continue to bless you richly,” the Minister’s message to Skepple reads.
Minister Leandro, who is the lone female elected Member of Parliament continued her message by congratulating Skepple on behalf of the constituents of St. George.
“As your parliamentary representative I speak for all nationals in the St. George community and particularly Pigott's Village when I say you have done us all proud!!!,” the Minister stated.
Thousands of Antiguans and Barbudans were on hand at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium to witness the match which saw Antigua and Barbuda advancing for the first time to the Semi-Finals round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
