PM SPENCER CONGRATULATES TAHIR WALSH FOR WINNING GOLD AT THE COMMONWEALTH YOUTH GAMES IN THE ISLE OF MAN Saturday 10th September 2011
Prime Minister the Hon. W. Baldwin Spencer has sent a congratulatory message to Antiguan sprint sensation Tahir Walsh who captured the Gold Medal in the Men 100 Metre finals in the Commonwealth Youth Games being held in the Isle of Man.
Tahir, who won the Gold Medal in the CARIFTA Games Under 17 Male 100 Metre finals last year, clocked 10.50 seconds in the much anticipated race.
“Your performance has made all of Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean proud especially coming on the heels of medal performances by Caribbean athletes Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Kirini James. You have demonstrated that your determination to succeed and the hard work that you put into preparing for your competitions can yield success.”
“I had the pleasure of witnessing your silver medal performance during the National Championships earlier this year and I believe that you signalled that athletics in Antigua and Barbuda has a bright future. I am also confident that your successes will act as a motivator for your fellow peers in athletics to aim for greatness.”
“Accept the congratulations of my Government and the people of Antigua and Barbuda on your outstanding performance. Congratulations also to the entire team and coaches; which I am sure provided the necessary moral and technical support.”
The country’s leader also wished Tahir further success in his other competitions during the Commonwealth Youth Games. Tahir will participate in the 200M Men race and the 4 X 100M Relay Men later this week.
