VILLA LIONS, EMPIRE CELEBRATE TITLE WIN IN YOUTH CUP
Monday 15th August 2011

Villa Lions and Empire respectively won the Under 15 and Under 13 titles in the Youth Cup of the Warriors 2011 tournament on Sunday at the John Hughes Playing Field.

Adrian Constant and Ture Massiah netted the goals as Villa defeated a spirited Stingray City Seaglans 2-0 to amass an unassailable 12 points from four matches with one to play to capture the U15 age group.

Seaglans, who finished third on seven points and improved game by game, matched their bigger and stronger opponents throughout the game.

Villa still have to play Ovals of All Saints who were beaten 3-1 by CPTSA Wings in another U15 game.

Jerome Gilliard scored twice and Derron McIntosh netted the third as Wings won their last match of the campaign to finish on four points while Ovals, who had taken the lead through Michael Dover, have two points.

Empire’s U13s defeated Villa Lions 3-0 in the final after the Gray’s Farm side had beaten Young Warriors 4-0 in the semi-final of the youngest age-group.

Rodney Lawrence hit a hat-trick to spur Empire to their championship after he had scored in the win over Warriors. Twadedre Jacobs, who struck a double, and Charmane Daley were the other scorers in the semi-final win.

A strike from Constant with two minutes to go helped Villa Lions U17s’ defeat Empire 2-1 in a keenly-contested match.

Constant feasted onto a pass to hit a powerful shot into the roof net to give Villa their third straight win of oldest age-group. Jamal Semper had put Villa ahead in the first minute of the 50-minute game but Empire’s Nickaido Lindsay had pulled his side level on 10 minutes until Constant settled the issue.

Parham also made it three win from as many matches as they overpowered Wadadli Event Services Swetes 3-0 in another U17 match. Jahkool Aaron, Jared Williams and Mickel Phillip were the scorers.

The Championship Cup, featuring 16 men’s and six women’s team, kicks-off at 4pm on Saturday at the English Harbour Playing Field. Matches will also be played at the John Hughes Playing Field.
