SMITTY BEGIN DEFENSE OF WARRIORS CUP AGAINST JOHN HUGHES Tuesday 16th August 2011
 Champions A& R Smitty will oppose home side John Hughes when they begin their defense on Sunday’s second day the Championship Cup of the 2011 Warriors Cup which will be played from Aug. 20-Sept. 4 at three separate venues.
Smitty, who have by preparing for the past few weeks under coach St Claire ‘Nashie’ Christian, will be hoping to avoid an upset by John Hughes who is expected to give a stiff challenge on their own turf.
The Championship Cup kicks-off on Saturday, 20 August at the English Harbour Playing Field when Cool and Smooth Empire oppose Jennings Grenades in the first match of the 16-team tournament organized by the Young Warriors Football Club.
The teams have been divided into four groups of four with the top two from each group advancing to the quarter-final which will be played on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 followed by the Final Four (semi-finals and final) on Sept. 3 & 4 at the Antigua Recreation Ground.
The groups are as follows:
Group A: Smitty, Villa Lions, Young Warriors, John Hughes
Group B: Parham, Bullets, Freeman’s Ville, Hill Top
Group C: Hoppers, Bethesda, Fort Road, 5Ps,
Group D: Empire, Willikies, Jennings Grenades, English Harbour Youth
Organizers say they have extended the tournament by an additional week to accommodate an increase in the number of team taking part as well as to facilitate the preparedness of the ARG following the recent Carnival activities.
Home side English Harbour Youths, under the guidance of Ian ‘Chicken Leg’ Piper, will play the feature game of first day of competition when they oppose newly-promoted Premier Division side, Willikies at 6pm following Saturday’s brief Opening Ceremony which start at 4pm. Empire and Grenades will start the ball rolling at 4:30pm.
