WICB MEDIA RELEASE: SCOTIABANK KIDDY CRICKETERS TO DEBUT AT QUEENS PARK OVAL
Wednesday 8th June 2011

Scotiabank Kiddy cricketers to debut at Queens Park Oval

Port of Spain, Trinidad – The Queens Park Oval is scheduled for even more excitement during the Second Digicel Pearls One Day International at the Queens Park Oval as young up-and-coming primary school cricketers from Trinidad and Tobago take centre stage for their big debut as part of the WICB Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Programme for the spectacular International Interval Display.

The students will demonstrate their cricketing skills and love for the game during the lunch interval of the Second Digicel Pearls ODI. The talented boys and girls will be displaying their batting, bowling, catching and fielding skills under the supervision of their coaches and school supervisors.

The featured schools from Trinidad and Tobago include: Vistabella Presbyterian Primary, San Francique Presbyterian, Saint Mary’s AC Home, Rio Claro ASGA, Belmont Government School, Eastern Girls Government School, Tobago Representative – Combined School, Matura Government School.

Commenting on this year’s Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket, Territorial Development Officer – Trinidad & Tobago, Kumar Rampat said: “The Kiddy Cricket Programme is strategically focused on rebuilding children’s love for the game at an early age, both in the class room and on the playfields. In Trinidad and Tobago, the programme has been embraced by teachers, parents and also primary school children.”

He added: “This year’s Kiddy Cricket Interval display will not only allow our children the opportunity to show their talent but also to share the open field with some of their West Indies and also Indian cricket heroes.”

Kwame Blanchfield, Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Marketing Manager commented: “Scotiabank is proud to the official sponsor of the Kiddy Cricket Programme and support the programme’s principles to teach children the unifying game of cricket, both on and off the field. Scotiabank and WICB share common goals in the development of cricket regionally, but more importantly strive to set the foundation for the development of well rounded Caribbean citizens through the Kiddy Crciket Programme.”

“The Kiddy Cricket Interval Display is one of the flagship activities of the schedule each year, which enables our boys and girls from Trinidad & Tobago to show off their cricketing talent and to develop confidence on the international stage,” Blanchfield added.

In January 2011, the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Programme resumed in Trinidad and Tobago and is scheduled to deliver programme resources such as cricketing kits and coaching from certified WICB coaches during the course of the year. A WICB Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Festival and Camp are scheduled to be held in Trinidad later in the year.
