RAIN THREATENED SIR REGINALD SAMUEL CLASSIC; ORGANIZERS REMAINED UNDAUNTED
Tuesday 10th May 2011

March Past of Clubs in the 3rd Annual Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic

A spate of bad weather threatened to halt the 2nd day of the 3rd Annual Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic.

The rain threatened the first day, Saturday, May 7, but the skies remained overcast and the organizers were able to proceed uninterrupted, although a late start to the Opening Ceremony. In fact, it turned out a great day for athletics.

The Opening of the 3rd Annual Sir Reginald Samuel Track & Field Classic was addressed by Planning Officer in the Ministry of Sports Mrs. Anne Jonas, President of the Antigua & Barbuda Amateur Athletic Association, Dr. Rodney Williams, one of the Event sponsors, Mrs. Sonya Carter, Marketing representative of ECAB, and Meet Director, Mr. Everton Cornelius.

However, on Sunday, May 8, the organizers had to proceed in light showers when it became evident, after a four (4) hour delay, that waiting around would result in a very late finish or abandonment. It turned out that the decision proved a good one, since the showers stopped just after 6:00 P.M.

According to Meet Director, Everton Cornelius, “except for the delays, the Meet went creditably with just a few minor glitches, which should be ironed out for the 4th hosting of the Event, next year.”

Cornelius agreed like others, who commented on the poor support from the general public, and many of the parents of the athletes who continue to disappoint the youth.
