The hosting of the 3rd Annual Sir Reginald Samuel Classic is just about three weeks away, May 6—8, 2011, at the YASCO Sports Complex, but the organizers are still in dire need of sponsorship to run the Meet, effectively.

It is always a difficulty in hosting any event at YASCO, when organizations have to contend with looking about proper accommodation for spectators and competitors, since tents and toilets have to be rented for any major event.

Too, some sponsors are only interested in supporting the Stars or the Cream of he Crop. The Associations, Sporting Organizations and Clubs are the foundation for the promotion of sports, and if they get the support then Antigua will see, not just a few stars, but a bigger contingent of athletes off to the Carifta Games, Panam Games, Olympics, etc. But sporting organizations still have to perform miracles to run their programs because of lack of sponsorship, not to mention, proper facilities.

However, there are some who continue to see the wisdom in supporting associations, clubs and organizations who in return, create the avenues for our youth to develop their talents. In this regard, the CPTSA continues to applaud Hutchinson (Antigua) Ltd. agents for Lysol, for once again, coming on board, in a late request for assistance, to host the SRS Track & Field Classic.

Hutchinson is also the sponsors of the Annual Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out and the CPTSA Annual Female Football Tournament. Subway is another sponsor who will be supporting the Athletic Event, and continue to assist the CPTSA whenever asked.

State Insurance Corporation and the Ministry of Sports are supporting the SRS Track & Field Classic for the third year running.

Wing's Athletes Compete in Guadelope

A small contingent of athletes of the Wings Youth Track & Field left Antigua on Friday April 15, to participate in an Invitational Athletic Meet in Guadeloupe on April 16-17, 2011.

The team includes Alisha Thomas, Bliss Soleyne, Jalil Salmon and Kashen Colbourne. The team is being accompanied by WYTF Head Coach, Everton Cornelius and Chaperone Dawn Soleyne.

The CPTSA sends congratulations to Wings Tahir Walsh and the other athletes who qualified to participate in the Carifta Games in Jamaica.
