DARYL ARRIVES SAFELY IN ANTIGUA Thursday 23rd March 2017
21/03/2017 - After 96 days and 13 hours at sea, Daryl Farmer has safely arrived in English Harbour on his boat BOJANGELS to an emotional reunion with friends, family and loved ones!
Having been without a rudder for a long period of time and facing huge challenges with the boat and equipment, Daryl has persevered with incredible strength, grit and determination to fulfill his dream of crossing the Atlantic solo.
His incredible support team has been with him every step of the way. Their latest post on Facebook, summarized well their feeling, as he approached land:
Ok so I think I’m going BURST!!!!
This is so incredible!! No support! No rudder! Sheer strength and determination!!!
2.6nm to go!!
Prior to arrival, Daryl also posted this message when he had officially crossed the Atlantic:
“I would like to dedicate this crossing to my Grandad who loved boats and the ocean, and would have loved this whole event! The Rowers Ark campaign is still in memory of my mum but as today would have been my Grandad's birthday (19th) and I hit the 61 degrees’ mark making this an official ocean crossing, it only seems fit to dedicate the actual crossing to him! It is probably through him that I felt this urge to go to sea. I still own the model of HMS Fearless that he made for me as a kid. If only he knew what that had inspired. I’m convinced I had some helping hands guiding me across this ocean after the rudder was ripped off, and I’m fairly sure his was one of them”.
Congratulations to Daryl and his team for this extraordinary achievement!
