ROW 4 JAMES - A CHARITY RECORD
Tuesday 24th January 2017

The ROW 4 JAMES team steamed into English Harbour on Sunday morning of January 22nd, arriving in second place after LATITUDE 35. With a speedy crossing time of 39 days, 4 hours and 14 minutes, the team of four – Rory Buchanan, Harry Wentworth-Stanley, Toby Fenwicke-Clennell and Sam Greenly, managed to raise the most money ever by a trans-Atlantic rowing team. More than £550,000 has been raised so far, with funds undoubtedly still continuing to pour in for the James Wentworth-Stanley Memorial Fund (http://jwsmf.org ).

The ROW 4 JAMES team’s challenge is in memory of Harry’s brother James, who took his life in 2006, aged 21. Since his parents founded the JWSMF, Harry has searched for a fitting tribute to James – both to make him proud and to support the work of his parents. Rowing the Atlantic was the answer and the four boys have done an incredible job both in crossing the Atlantic and drawing so much attention to such a worthwhile cause.

On their final day crossing the ocean, the team were blessed with a completely flat ocean and an incredible sunrise, with Antigua in the background and dolphins guiding them towards land. The boys seem to have had a good time on the ocean. According to the Race Organisers, Atlantic Campaigns, they only lost 24 kilos in total between them – half what was lost by the LATITUDE 35 crew, who arrived just 4 days earlier.

On arrival, skipper Harry Wentworth-Stanley said: “Our aim when we set out was to raise as much money as we possibly could for our charity but this race has been absolutely electric and we’ve enjoyed it so much. The support we’ve had during the crossing has kept us going and the reception here in English Harbour was the most amazing thing we’ve ever experienced – we’re speechless.”
