ATLANTIC ROWERS FINALLY AT THE START Wednesday 6th January 2010
JERSEY’S Waterbabes have finally started their Atlantic rowing race after being delayed for a month.
The female foursome, officially titled the Dominion Atlantic Waterbabes, have been twiddling their thumbs in La Gomera in the Canary Islands for the last four weeks after a host of problems disrupted the annual Woodvale Challenge rowing race.
But the women, Karen Radband, Sarah Medland and Kiley Trehorel-Daly from Jersey and Jo Langmead from the UK, got their 2,548-mile race under way at about 1.30 pm yesterday and hope to reach the finish line in Antigua in under 60 days.
Jerseyman Mike Etienne painted and delivered the Waterbabes’ boat, the Mission Atlantic, and was at the start line to bid the team bon voyage. The progress of the Waterbabes can be followed at www.atlanticrowingrace09.com/progress.
