70 DAYS TO TWAC2018 START Tuesday 2nd October 2018
The countdown is on to 12th December, the scheduled start date of the 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. Antigua and Barbuda’s bid in the challenge continues again this year for the third time, with the third team to represent our islands, the Team Antigua Island Girls. This four-woman team will be the first women’s team to represent us in the challenge. As it stands, there are five women training for the challenge, but the final four who will row the Atlantic are to be announced.

Their boat, the Jean-Mary, has been shipped off to be setup with all electrics and equipment needed, and the team will meet their vessel again in La Gomera, Canary Islands, before the start of the challenge. Training on the boat therefore has ended until they get to La Gomera, but gym training and studies continue to be as prepared mentally and physically as possible before the challenge, dubbed ‘The World’s Toughest Row’.
Gaining sponsorship for the row, in which each team is required to raise funds for the charity of their choice, has been easy for this team compared to the previous teams, having secured a number of gold sponsors to support them on their journey. Once costs are covered, all funds raised will go toward the Cottage of Hope.
