UPDATE ON TEAM ANTIGUA IN TWAC 2017 Wednesday 20th December 2017
Less than a week in to the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge and Team Antigua is holding strong in first in the fleet since Day 3, 16th December. They’ve battled a problematic water maker (fixed with advice from Julien at Water Maker Services Antigua), issues with making enough power, and sore bodies, but have rowed just under 500NM so far. We’re hoping they can keep up their incredible effort and keep Antigua and Barbuda at the top of the leaderboard!
The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is exactly that, a Challenge, and within the first week there’s been 3 recovery efforts for withdrawals from the fleet. Jesus De La Torre of pairs team Remolon was recovered leaving Jorge Pena to continue solo. Both solo teams Team Harquebus and Nylunds Boathouse were caught in localized weather off La Gomera and were recovered also and towed back to the marina.
Despite this, we’re seeing a lot of action within the fleet. Team Antigua battles head to head with The Four Oarsmen and incredibly – solo rower Mark Slats (Row 4 Cancer) has been powering ahead and is now 3rd in the whole fleet, with having a weight advantage and rowing 20 hours a day.
Team Antigua has taken on this challenge to create a marine protected area in Antigua through donations received during their row. Now’s the time to show support – DONATE to their charity for the betterment of Antigua and Barbuda.
Track the fleet here or on the YB Races App and get updates daily on the Team Antigua – Atlantic Rowers Facebook Page.
