SUMMER MUSIC CAMP Wednesday 1st June 2016
Sign up and learn how to play music at "Antigua Music Camp", set over July 4th - July 22nd, from Mondays to Fridays, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Christ the King High School, with a concert on Saturday, July 23rd at Spring Gardens Moravian Church.
Participants may sign up for the camp at " Antigua Music Camp" website here. The camp is for anyone, including children ages 6 years and up who are interested in learning music.
The instruments which will be taught are the violin, viola and cello. Ms. Abby Young, is a doctorate violin student from the University of Miami, is the string coordinator for the camp and will teach both violin and viola.
Ms. Arianne Urban has completed her masters in violin performance from DuPaul University in Chicago and will be teaching violin only. Ms. Valerie Edwards, who is also the director of the camp, and who holds an associate diploma from Trinity College London (ATCL) in cello recital, will be teaching cello, and Mr Quincy Etinoff who will be assisting with the teaching of music theory and will be accompanying the children in their solo pieces.
There will be a camp orchestra in which the participants will play not only classical music, but also jazz, blues and modern music.
The camp's orchestra will continue after the completion of the camp so that the new skills learnt won't be for nothing. Further concerts will be held throughout the year. For next year's camp, it is hoped that other instruments will be included, such as the guitar and voice.
