PLAYTECH DONATES TO ISLAND ACADEMY’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME Friday 8th February 2013
Playtech Corporation, a gaming software development company has made a generous donation to Island Academy’s scholarship fund. Playtech has been in Antigua since it was founded in 1999 and its recent donation will enhance the school’s efforts to provide eligible Antiguan students with financial assistance.

Island Academy is a non-profit organization whose ethos is to create access and opportunity to the children of Antigua and Barbuda. Their scholarship fund is an extremely vital part of the school, with almost 50% of the student body receiving some form of financial assistance. Through Island Academy’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program, students have been able to access admissions and scholarships to top tier universities. In 2011 an Island Academy graduate was accepted to Georgetown University, one of the world’s leading institutions, with a full scholarship (covering costs of tuition, and room and board) and in 2012 two graduates were accepted to the highly selective Elon University, and Morehouse College with part scholarships.
This generous donation by Playtech supports the work of Island Academy’s Board of Trustees in establishing these educational benchmarks critical to the progress of Antigua’s youth.
The school’s Principal Ronan Matthew says, the donation is greatly appreciated and will strongly impact the programme. “It is always good when a Corporate Citizen views our work at the school in a positive manner and is willing to participate in the process of nation building”.
Playtech is the world’s largest publicly traded online gaming software supplier, with software certified in all regulated markets, trading on the London Stock Exchange since 2006. Manager Nigel Pigott, says even with the current gaming struggles, Playtech will always try to be involved in the development of the country.
Island Academy is the only IB school on Antigua and Barbuda and the only one in the Eastern Caribbean. The rigorous and world-renown IB program distinguishes Island Academy from peer institutions as an international school that is focused on educating boys and girls with a worldview.
