VOLUNTEER TRANSLATORS NEEDED AT MSJMC Tuesday 5th February 2013
The need for translators is a growing trend at Mount St. John’s Medical Centre because of the diversity of the growing population.
“If our physicians cannot communicate with our patients, it has a lot of safety implications”, said Salma Crump MSJMC Communications, Manager. “Access to translators remains a challenge for the hospital and is very limited. That is the type of gap we’re trying to fill.”
All volunteers will be screened and will undergo training, which includes learning basic medical terminology. The training will also focus on patient confidentiality.
Said Loann Hector, MSJMC Utilization Manager, “Our goal is to ensure accurate communication to prevent medical errors and to improve quality of care provided to our changing community.”
