GRAND PINEAPPLE HOSTS LIGHTS ON DAY CAMP Wednesday 31st July 2013
Participants in Lights on Day Camp were treated to a special afternoon at Grand Pineapple Beach Resort on Thursday, July 25. More than 15 campers were given a comprehensive resort tour which enabled them to view hotel rooms and learn about the various department’s that comprise the property. This was followed by a luncheon with the management team who enjoyed sharing their knowledge about the hospitality industry with their captive audience. Hotel Manager O’Brian Heron emphasized the importance of youth engagement and said, “We are thrilled to be given the opportunity to spend quality time with these children because they are our future hoteliers so if we are able to equip them with the tools to succeed in the hospitality industry, the tourism sector in Antigua and Barbuda will continue to thrive.”
Lights on Day Camp Director Na-ajele Williams-Buffonge applauded Grand Pineapple for helping to facilitate the mentorship component of the camp. “You may not realize it but many of these children will never be able to afford to come to this beautiful resort so this act of kindness has a wonderful impact on them and they will leave here with invaluable knowledge that may lead to a career in this challenging and dynamic sector,” commented Williams-Buffonge. Over the past three years, Grand Pineapple has forged a strong relationship with the community camp that focuses on sports, recreation, education and culture.
