It was an evening of elegance and flair as team members strutted their stuff down the red carpet at Grand Pineapple Beach Resort’s annual Prestige Awards. The black tie affair was hosted by radio personality Sly J. and special invited guests included Neil Forrester from the Antigua Hotel and Tourism Association and Senator Chester Hughes. This year’s theme was “honouring stars among stars. “We are celebrating the accomplishments of our phenomenal team members because their dedication and exemplary customer service skills touches the lives of our valued guests daily,” commented General Manager Courtney Miller.
The Sandals Earth Guard Award was won by Joyce Floyd from the Dining Room Department and the Revenue Earner’s Award was given to the Photo Shop’s Sasha Mitchell. Activities Coordinator Kerry Vital copped Most Improved honours while the Kitchen’s Jo-anne Donaldson won the Most Guest Nominated Award. The Sandals Foundation Community Spirit Award was given to Director of Guest Services Barbara Thomas and Athena James won the Financial Controller’s prize. The Hotel Manager’s Heart of the House Award went to Shastri Davis of the Maintenance Department and the General Manager’s Award was won by Raheem Davis from the Kitchen.
Georgette Martin won the highly contested Supervisor of the Year Award and the Front Office was named the Department of the year. Michelle Freeman won the Smile Award for Courtesy and Human Resources Manager Donna Samuels was named the Manager of the Year.
Canteen cook Karen Jones took home the coveted Resort Team Member of the Year Award. “This is such an incredible feeling and I will continue to do the job that I love so dearly,” said an ecstatic Jones.” She will now compete against the winners from other Sandals resorts for the Ultimate Team Member of the Year Award. Public Area Supervisor Steadmore Christian won the Resort Team Member of the Year Runner Up Award.

Team members were treated to a hilarious dramatic presentation from the management team entitled “The Starless Hotel.” There was also a fire show and special performances by the Antigua Youth Choir and Final Drive Band.
