ABFC ANNOUNCES CHANGE TO INDEPENDENCE CALENDAR Wednesday 24th October 2018
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda – 22nd October 2018. The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission on Monday announced that the annual Independence Fashion Show has been postponed until January 2019.
Commission Chairman, Maurice Merchant outlined that a number of the local designers have requested a new date due to several regional and international commitments. “It has been a busy year for our local designers who have been participating in a number of fashion events across the Caribbean and North America and this has prevented them from focusing fully on the local exhibition and competition which form part of the independence activities.”
He noted that a date in early January will be selected for the event and will feature local designers to include Shem Henry, Ralstan Hughes and winner of this year’s Best Caribbean Student Fashion Film in the Caribbean Fashion and Arts Feature Festival, Argent Roberts.
Merchant also announced that the much anticipated Theatrical Presentation produced and directed by Owen Jackson, has been moved to Wednesday 31st October at the Dean William Lake Centre.
The Commission Chairman also congratulated Mr. Owen Jackson on attaining a Master of Arts degree in Creative Arts (Arts Educator) Distinction, from the University of the West Indies during the university’s recently held commencement ceremony in Barbados. “This high level of achievement by Jackson can only benefit our young people who have a passion for the arts,” he said.
Merchant also announced that the official opening of the Grays Green Community Centre at Knuckle Block will form part of the activities for Independence 2018. The opening will take place mid-next week, with final details to be announced over the weekend.
Antigua and Barbuda’s 37th Anniversary is being held under the theme, “Antigua and Barbuda: Forward Together.”
