ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA PARTNERSHIP WITH JERSEY
Tuesday 10th January 2023

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Government of Jersey embarked on this learning program in 2022, where residents of Antigua and Barbuda had the opportunity to work in Jersey for the period April to September. This is a three-year agreement between both countries which will give one hundred (100) Antiguan and Barbudan residents the opportunity to apply and work and Jersey.

Why this partnership works?

The island of Jersey, which sits just off the coast of France is very similar to our own twin island nation.  Hospitality is one of the key drivers of their economy and their population is approximately one hundred thousand. Their tourism season high season is April - September, our traditional low-season months. During the period of the pandemic, Jersey experienced a labour shortage and as their peak season approaches, they have reached out to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to assist with providing employees with the opportunity to work abroad and experience Jersey – a valuable experience that can only enhance the work experience for nationals in our twin island state.

In 2022, forty eight (48) residents took the charge to become ambassadors in this inaugural programme and in year 2, one hundred (100) residents will have the opportunity to work and experience Jersey. Over the past few weeks, under the leadership of High Commissioner Karen Mae Hill, Training Consultant Ms. Shirlene Nibbs, and with consultation with the Jersey Government, we have successfully reviewed last year’s programme and are ready to implement an enhanced programme for 2023 to include a focus on:

  • Expanding the number of candidates
  • Expanding the database of jobs to be offered in the hospitality sector in Jersey (All areas of hospitality will be open for  employment)
  • Focus on training for employees journeying to Jersey
  • Promote the training of local Antiguans and Barbudans by facilitators from Highland College in Jersey

As a member business of the ABHTA, we are extending an early registration for employees within your business, who would wish to be a part of the 2023 Programme, that will run from April – September 2023.

Following a successful Year one of the partnership between the Governments of Antigua and Barbuda and Jersey in the Channel Islands, we are pleased to announce that Year 2 of the programme is poised to officially launch on January 24, 2023.

Note that ALL employees from your business, who wish to participate, must be registered by you on the below link. Employees cannot register individually.  The process of you registering is important, as we wish to ensure that registered employees are approved by your Management team.
