ANTIGUA SAFETY & SECURITY

ANTIGUA SAFETY & SECURITY

Antigua is still a relatively safe country to visit but we would recommend that you should continue to act as you would when visiting anywhere else in the world that you are not familiar with.

  • Be vigilant at all times
  • Avoid isolated areas including beaches after dark.
  • Where possible do not walk alone at night
  • Do not carry large amounts of cash or jewellery.
  • Leave valuables and travel documents in safety deposit boxes or safes where possible.
  • Keep doors locked once you are inside and do not sleep with the doors open.
  • Behave responsibly. Remember that you are more vulnerable after a few drinks & avoid taking drugs.
  • Drugs - please remember that even though as everywhere else in the World that drugs are available, that the dealers are operating outside the law. Buying and possession of drugs is a criminal offence.
  • Please remember, never play the hero. In the unlikely event that you are confronted, do not resist.
  • If hiring a car do not leave valuables on display.
  • Emergency numbers in Antigua & Barbuda are the same as the UK & USA. Both 999 & 911 are valid numbers.

Although the chances are that you will never encounter the few criminals that are around, by taking a few precautions, you can ensure that your holiday is safe as well as enjoyable.

If you are a witness to crime or hear anything about a crime that has been or is going to be committed please contact Crime Stoppers Antigua anonymously.

Special thanks go to John Duffy & Antigua Barbuda Marine Guide for his contribution to this information.
