ACYR - S/Y ADIX JOINS RACING FLEET Monday 4th April 2016
Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is pleased to announce that the 221 ft. three-masted schooner Adix, will be joining the racing fleet.
Built by Astilleros de Palma de Mallorca in 1984, she first arrived in Antigua as ‘Jessica’ in the mid ‘eighties under the flamboyant ownership of Carlos Perdomo. She had completed her first circumnavigation by the late ‘eighties under Alan Bond, before returning to Europe to begin her new awakening as ‘Adix’. After competing at La Nioularge in 1990, she competed in two trans-Atlantic races, the second effort delivering a long sought after goal, which was to better the famous three-masted schooner ‘Atlantic’s’ passage time, which we eventually did comfortably at an average speed of 12.6 knots.
However, during her current ownership, which now spans more than 27 years, she has essentially been a consummate cruising yacht, with two more circumnavigations under her keel, and several runs throughout the Pacific. She has ranged as far north as Alaska, and ventured South to the Antarctic Peninsula.
