CONCOURSE D'ELEGANCE TO HONOUR OUTSTANDING CLASSIC YACHTS Thursday 15th April 2010
The enormous array of classic yachts at the 23rd annual Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta will be judged this morning for trophies honoring the Best Professionally Maintained Yacht” and the “Best Privately Maintained Yacht.”
The Concours is sponsored by the Boat International Media Group, well known for the content of their magazines and books published in English, French, German, Russian and Arabic. The Concours d’Elegance is a pre-race highlight of the international Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, hosted by the Antigua Yacht Club.
In recent years, the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta – the first of nine classic racing programs sponsored worldwide by Panerai as the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge -- has seen a large increase in the number of ultra-large competing yachts. Many are restored original yachts and others are newly built vessels designed to emulate yachts of a bygone era.
The yachts in the 2010 Regatta range in length from a 140-foot German Frers ketch (Rebecca) to a 24-foot Piper sloop (Spring Tide).
Prizes for the Concours d’Elegance will be presented tonight at a ceremony on the Antigua Yacht Club lawn at 6:30 PM.
