NEW ENTRIES FOR THE 2019 CLASSICS Thursday 8th November 2018
The elegant Bermudan-rigged ketch SUMURUN, originally launched as a gaff-rigged yawl in Fife’s legendary Fairlie Boatyard in 1914, is no stranger to the Antigua Classics and we are delighted to welcome her back in 2019. She was commissioned by the beautiful and flamboyant Lady Victoria Sackville as a gift for her husband and was named after an equally beautiful harem girl in a popular stage production in London at the time. Both a “fast and bonny” yacht, the legendary and superbly maintained SUMURUN is the nearest thing to living in another age…”

A new build both for the Classics next year and for local owner Don Ward: an Eagle44 built by Leonardo Yachts in the Netherlands. Having raced in the Classic GRP Class for many years, he will now be in the Spirit of Tradition Class in both the Single-Handed Race, which he has won many times on such boats as LIBERTINE, WINSOME & FROLIC - his last boat - and in the main races. We look forward to seeing his new, sleek yacht named WILLPOWER, after his grandson William, who he is teaching to sail.
