ASW'S LAY DAY TO RAISE FUNDS FOR NATIONAL SAILING ACADEMY Tuesday 24th April 2012
Lay Day festivities will be held this year at Pigeon Beach in Falmouth Harbour beginning at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, May 2. There will be shuttle buses available to transport you to and from the beach throughout the day and into the evening.
The day’s activities will include dinghy racing with pairs of two in Laser Pico dinghies. Antigua Sailing Week has adopted Antigua’s National Sailing Academy as its official charity this year and the racing has been set up in part to increase awareness of the Sailing Academy among local parents and children, and to highlight potential future opportunities for those involved in the program. Teams will be made up of one National Sailing Academy student and one Antigua Sailing Week sailor. There will be five racing heats with six boats in each, and the winners of each heat will race in the finals.
There will also be rowing races with teams of four plus coxswain and stand up paddle board racing. The on-the-water activities will be followed by beach cricket with Antiguan Cricket Legends including Sir Vivian Richards. Other fun and games will also take place on the beach throughout the afternoon including tug-of-wars, piggy-back races and so on. The day will be packed full of activity and there will be fun prizes awarded throughout the afternoon!
Space will be limited for all of the activities so you are encouraged to sign up in advance at the Committee Desk, either in person or by calling on VHF Channel 12. You can also sign up on the beach but available places will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
