The EAG and National Parks New Year Star watch
This annual event will be held on the evening of Saturday 5th January, 2013 at 5:30pm at the Blockhouse, Nelsons Dockyard National Park. We are inviting everyone with an interest in appreciating the beauty and wonder of our night sky to join us at this historic site. There will be knowledgeable persons present who will help identify these and many other celestial objects and, hopefully, we will have a telescope or two for persons to see some of these objects close up. For more information, visit our website or our Facebook page.
Caribbean Waterbird Census Field Training - Saturday 5 January, Sunday 6 January, 2013
In collaboration with the Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds, the Environmental Awareness Group will be hosting a training session for those wishing to participate in the Caribbean Waterbird Census.
The census is a region wide effort to employ scientific methods in the counting of birds and assessments of their habitats and aims to target ordinary citizens who have an interest in their local biodiversity. The goal of the Caribbean Waterbird Census program is to learn more about the distribution, status, and abundance of waterbirds in the Caribbean to improve our conservation planning and management of these beautiful birds and their habitats.
There will be sessions in the field on Saturday 5th January at Turner's Beach Swamp (drive through road to Pelican Isle Villas) and on Sunday 6th January, 2013 at Seaforth (The Flashes; meet at the entrance to Halls estate).
For both sessions, meet at 4:00 pm. All are welcome. For further information, call Andrea at 728-7956.
