CHRISTAN VALLEY BIRD TRAIL OPENS Tuesday 31st January 2012
The Christian Valley Birding Trail was officially opened last Thursday, and there are high expectations that not only visitors, but also locals, will take the nature trek that extends to Mount Obama.
“For us as politicians and particularly for me as prime minister, the daily challenges associated with the business of state can be rough on the body both physically and mentally. Being here, I have begun to feel the therapeutic currents of this serene environ,” Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said in his endorsement.
“The hobby of birding is not only a relaxing and entertaining way to enjoy nature, but it is also educational, environmentally friendly, provides good exercise and is inexpensive. The opening of the Christian Valley Trail is an added boost to the treasure of activities here, not only for our visitors,” PM Spencer added.
The three trails are for hiking and walking, and offer those who visit an opportunity to take in the serene sights and sounds of Antigua’s flora and glimpses of several species of indigenous birds.
Finland’s Ambassador-at-large to the Caribbean Ambassador Mikko Pyhälä commended the people of Antigua & Barbuda on their volunteerism in making the project, which has been two years in the making, a reality. “I am so impressed with the voluntary work that took place on this project. It was astronomical; the people of Antigua & Barbuda did a great job and they have a lot to be proud of,” Ambassador Pyhälä said.
