NEW FISHING TOURNAMENT Wednesday 9th June 2010
Following right behind the 45th Annual Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament taking place on the 10th - 12th June 2011, the Antigua and Barbuda Marlin Classic is a one day marlin only tournament taking place on Monday 13th June 2011.
This tournament marks a welcome return to three days of fishing, particularly for the overseas boats who travel so far to come to the Annual Tournament.
The one day Marlin Classic will be a totally separate tournament with an entry fee of US$1000 per boat. The winner. determined by most points wins a trophy and 80% of the total entry fees, with the balance of the money going to the Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Club.
Operating under the same rules as the main tournament the only difference is in the minimum weights and points assigned for marlin bought to the scale or released. Minimum weight for a blue marlin is 500 lbs. That means for fish brought to the scale, one point for every pound of fish caught, but also means 500 points deducted for any underweight fish brought to the scale. Release of any blue marlin will be 500 points,. White marlin, sailfish and spearfish are release only, with 200 points being awarded for each one.
The club looks forward to extending the opportunity for both local and overseas boats to compete competitively in Antigua and Barbuda which will not only mean a new and exciting tournament, but the potential for interest from more overseas boats from further afield.
