ANTIGUA SPORT FISHING GETS INTERNATIONAL COVERAGE Thursday 25th March 2010
In January, the Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Club and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority hosted a four day visit from the film crew responsible for the international television show Sport Fishing Television. This Saturday at 12.30pm on CTV channel 311 Versus ,Network will be airing the show for the first time. It is the last episode in a thirteen part series which has featured the best of sport fishing throughout the world. It means Antigua is rubbing shoulders with destinations not just throughout the Caribbean, but North and South America and Australasia.
The film and production team were taken out fishing by Captain Frankie Hart of Overdraft Fishing Charters and Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Club Phillip Shoul. The four men crew included producer Ken Kavanagh, show host and editor of Marlin Magazine Dave Ferrell and two cameramen could not believe how quickly they shot the footage. They said the fishing waters in Antigua were plentiful and enabled them to prepare the footage for the television programme in two hours. An unprecedented event in the history of them filming worldwide.
While daytime filming focused on the fishing, once aback on dry land the crew enjoyed dining out at places such as Cloggies and Johnny Coconat’s in English Harbour and Al Porto Restaurant in Jolly Harbour. They toured lots of historical sites such as Shirley Heights, Nelson’s Dockyard and Devil’s Bridge, drove through the rainforest and generally shot footage of Antigua to include in the half an hour show.
The objective behind this project is to put Antigua and Barbuda fairly and squarely on the map for anglers worldwide, not just in the Caribbean and to further develop tourism opportunities within this market.
Tune in this weekend to see for yourself.
