FISHING, FUN AND RUM Thursday 13th September 2012
So summer is over, but that doesn’t mean the fun ends. If you can wait a couple more weeks, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th September will welcome in the 5th Annual Francis Nunes Jr. Fishing Tournament and Seafood Festival. Taking place in Nelson’s Dockyard, foodies can do double dipping as both days will host a superb array of seafood on sale.
Friday starts at 4pm and as the sun cools the boats start to arrive for registration. The grills will be fired up, Cavalier Rum and cold Carib will be poured and as the sun goes down the atmosphere will be one of camaraderie and anticipation for the next day’s catch. Delectable offerings will be served up from the Food and Drink Grab n’ Go stall, Chef Nigel and Global Catering and Jane’s Barbecue and the party will run into the night.
On Saturday lines are in at 7am and the competition begins. The captain’s and crew’s have one day to compete for the biggest catch, and will be looking for tuna, dolphin, wahoo and tuna. Lines are in at 3pm and the weigh in ends at 4.30pm.
Meanwhile from 3pm on Saturday the rush to enjoy as many dishes as possible will be visitors the Dockyard. Favourites such as seafood rice and pasta, stuffed crab backs, conch fritters, fried fish and many more will tantalise your taste buds. Just be sure to come hungry. Fish fresh from the catch will also be on sale as soon as it comes from the scale, so walk with your cooler to stock up.
Both days will also see the Rose Bar serving up chilled bottles of your favourite wines. If you are not a big wine drinker and would like to learn more speak to Christian. He has a wealth of knowledge and will enjoy educating you as much as you will enjoy learning about wines. Two other specialty bars serving up cocktails, desserts from Just desserts, Jacklyn’s Ice Creams plus for the kids, the toy stall, tattoos and other fun games will keep the entire family entertained.
Prize giving takes place on Saturday at 6.30pm and will lead into a relaxed night of catching up with friends, and enjoying the sublime atmosphere under the stars in Nelson’s Dockyard.
