KICK OFF WITH 40 BOATS Saturday 26th May 2012
Last night heralded the opening of the 46th Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing Tournament. 40 boats from Antigua and around the Caribbean converged on historic Nelson’s Dockyard in time for the Captain’s Briefing and to size up the competition in times for this mornings bimini start at Fort Berkley.
The crews prepared for today’s fishing and enjoyed catching up with old friends and rivals in readiness for two days of competitive fishing. As of 1.30pm more than seventy fish had been caught meaning the potential for some high numbers at the scale is looking good. It also means that the fresh fish stall will be busy selling fish straight from the catch as soon as it has been weighed in.
Festivities in Nelson’s Dockyard begin at 3pm with all the traditions you would expect such as the EC$5 bar, Global Catering and their huge seafood stall offering crab cakes, conch water, shrimp, fried fish, seafood pasta to name but a few dishes with everything cooked fresh to order. Jane’s Barbecue with some of the most succulent ribs for miles and the Rose Bar,.
New additions this year feature the new bigger Bombay Sapphire and La Marca Prosecco Bar, a Carib Beer Garden, Antigua Distillery Rum Shack and frozen crushes, and a Margarita Bar. Also new is the Grab n Go Food Stall. Six chefs all featured in the pages of Table Manners, the award winning cook book produced by Food and Drink Caribbean, will be on hand to produce finger licking food that won’t break the bank.
The fish weigh begins at 4.30pm until 6.30 pm and the grills and bars will be going all afternoon until late into the evening. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a wonderful.
