FOOD-FUH-DAYS! AT THE FRANCIS NUNES JR. MEMORIAL FISHING TOURNAMENT AND SEAFOOD FESTIVAL
Thursday 8th September 2011

Technically, this is a sports story, specifically a sports fishing story, but it could just as easily be filed under food.

After all, for those of us who’ve never cast a reel or guessed at the weight of a wahoo, the glorious scents of a seafood fare is sure to be its own tasty lure. Among those set to delight our taste buds at the Seafood Festival twinned with the Tournament are Jane’s Barbeque, Global Catering, Life on the Corner, Cloggy’s, and Just Desserts. A self-described homegrown, desserts only business owned by Joy Challenger, JUST DESSERTS is known for its Antigua-influenced continental sweets such as its famous “fruit tart made from a local Antiguan based pineapple preserve”, its key lime tart, and its passion fruit tart.  A Festival fan, Challenger said, “the sports fishing tournaments are so well done, this is the only thing that was missing.” Be sure to sample her offerings while you lime, and think of her for your next event (call: 770-0152)

Also think of GLOBAL CATERING (770-7632/764-0555), who will be serving heaping helpings of your favourite sea food blends. Owner/chef Nigel Gore said, you can look forward to their sea food rice – which is a fan favourite – conch fritters, crab cakes, seafood pasta, and more.
He makes no bones; “everything I make just sell off”. With stints at Jumby Bay and Jolly Beach to his credit, the popularity can probably be chalked up to the quality of both Nigel’s food and service.

CLOGGY’S – the popular Antigua Yacht Club based café – will be catering not only the Tournament launch party, but will also be setting up shop at the Festival. And we are assured that there will be “lovely sushi” to be sampled.
