ANTIGUA & BARBUDA FEATURED ON SPORTS FISHING TV Tuesday 8th March 2011
Antigua & Barbuda was featured on Sports Fishing TV; a popular television show about angling which airs on the Versus TV network in the USA. The 30 minute feature focused on shallow fishing just off English Harbour in the South of the island and in Indian Town in the East. The programme featured Philip Shoul, President of the Antigua & Barbuda Sports Fishing Association and other local captains interacting with the show’s host Dean Travis Clarke. The fishing expeditions were very successful prompting the show’s host to comment on the abundance of fish especially in the Indian Town area.
This is the second time that the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority and the Antigua & Barbuda Sports Fishing Association have partnered to contract Sports Fishing TV to promote sports fishing in Antigua & Barbuda. The 4 man crew spent 5 days in Antigua in January gathering footage to be used for the feature.
“The footage was awesome. There are wonderful shots of the destination that could only be captured by sea. Although the main focus of the programme was sports fishing a considerable portion of the 30 minute feature was dedicated to the other great activities that Antigua & Barbuda has to offer a visitor. This will give our destination quality exposure to the lucrative sports fishing visitor market” Said Hon. John Maginley, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Civil Aviation.
The programme included short clips of Heritage Quay, Stingray City, Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tours and other local restaurants and bars that the crew visited while on island.
“Sports Fishing TV is for serious anglers and when these guys recommend a destination for sports fishing it carries a lot of weight. The average Sports Fishing visitor is very valuable to a destination. They spend considerable sums in the hiring of boats and equipment. This is definitely a niche market that we intend to develop further” Said Colin C. James, CEO, Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority.
The programme which aired on Saturday 6th March at 1pm was recorded by ABS TV for future broadcast.
